How to Hire a Copywriter
Hiring a copywriter is an important step for any business. Unsure what copywriting is? Start here! However, if you already know the basics, welcome to the next level of copywriting - how to hire a copywriter! So what does working with a copywriter look like? What can you expect when you reach out and what will the day-to-day work look like? While I can’t answer these for every copywriter out there, I am going to explain my own personal process that I use everyday when working with my clients. Go ahead and skim through to find the questions that fit your own personal situation! Still have questions after reading this post? Feel free to reach out and ask me about your own unique situation.
Alright, let’s get to it!
What is the day-to-day process of working with a copywriter?
Once a brand voice has been set (read this if you’re unsure what a brand voice is), I create a Google Doc and share it with my client. They use this to share their ideas for the project they need completed. I then take the information they gave me and write it in their own unique brand voice that resonates with their target audience. Once the final draft has been written, I send it off for review! My client will then either post/send it, or they will give me the thumbs up and I will post/send it for them.
What type of copywriting do you do?
Here is the list of copywriting I can do and have done for past clients:
Marketing Emails
Blog Posts
Long-Form Sales Pages
Website Copy
Social Media Posts
If you write my emails, blogs or website content, will they look good on mobile?
Yep! Since most people read emails and surf the web on their phone, I always make sure it looks just as good, if not better, on mobile.
How do I pay for the projects?
You have two payment options: a monthly retainer or per project. If you are wanting consistent copy, like a weekly blog or daily emails, I recommend paying for a monthly retainer. However, if you need something like product packaging or website content, paying per project is the way to go.
A monthly retainer is billed the first Monday of every month and due within 15 days.
A project is billed 50% up front and 50% once the final draft has been written.
How much does it cost?
This varies from project to project but if you would like to see some sample prices, you can find them here. However, it’s impossible to list out every possible copywriting scenario so if you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can request a custom quote here.
What happens if I hate what you send me?
Each project has 3 revisions. If you’re not a fan of the first draft, you have 3 more chances to send your comments and see a new variation. On the rare event that you need more than 3 revisions (which has never happened), I charge an hourly rate for any additional edits.
I’m sold! How can I work with you?
You can set up a consultation call by filling out this form and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
And there you have it - those are the basics of working with a copywriter! If you have anymore questions that I did not include here, feel free to send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I would love to hear from you!
