Where New Business Owner's Go Wrong

I am the first to admit my own short-comings.

Losing track of time is a finely-tuned speciality of mine. My selective hearing is second to none since I spend at least half of my waking hours engrossed in my own imagination. I spill coffee on myself about once a day and as hard as try, waking up anytime before 9 am will always be a struggle. There are definite downsides to me as a human, but there is one characteristic I was born with that I have learned to harness and use to my advantage. This same natural-born talent now drives my business and is the number one resource I rely on when I work with clients. So what is this super power of mine? The ability to find clarity in an otherwise murky situation.

Clarity is a make it or break it quality in terms of a business's success.

Too often, we find ourselves on the "we want more!" treadmill. "More sales! More revenue! More clients! More employees! More more more!" But have you ever stopped long enough to think about what you are striving for? For example, is your own success defined as:

  • $50,000 in revenue or $1,000,000 in revenue?

  • Working part-time and still earning enough to pay the bills or working 60 hours a week?

  • 10,000 clients or 3?

Without having a clear picture of what success looks like, you are striving for an unattainable scenario. Since a website is a complete overview of the business, every angle needs to be considered when it is designed. Too often, I have worked with people who have never taken the time to truly define their business's success. Sometimes, it's a lack of planning but other times, I ask questions they had never even thought about before. And that's okay! As the saying goes, you don't know what you don't know. However, this is why hiring a professional web designer who knows what questions need to be answered is so crucial.

Are you finding yourself blanking on how to define your own business's success? If you are, don't panic! There are two ways to solve this problem. One would be to reach out to me (which you can do here) and we can find a solution together! However, if you aren't quite ready to take that step yet, the other option would be to download the e-book Web Design + Branding Defined. Inside the e-book, you will find 3 things:

  • A General Creative Brief - This will get you started on clearly defining your business.

  • How to Implement a Branding Style Board - Curious about what it takes to have a complete brand? This comprehensive guide explains exactly what you need.

  • A Complete File Guide - What's the difference between a JPG and PNG file? What are PDF's even good for and why shouldn't they be used as an image online? This will answer all your burning questions about the best file types to use for each situation.

I encourage you to start working on this today! By taking the time to define your goals, you will find clarity within your business.

And with clarity comes a peace of mind.

What areas of your business or organization do you feel are the most murky? Tell me about them in the comments! Write down any questions you may have, as you need a question before you can start searching for the answers.

I can't wait to hear from you!

With love,

- Heather
